Memorial Day honors men and women who died in freedom’s cause. I’d suggest that hearing those we disagree with is a part of remaining free. I remember G. Gordon Liddy speaking at my college. Boy, did I disagree! I was first in line for Q&A. My verbal clash with him (I still have it on cassette somewhere) helped me test the logic and expression of my own young opinions. Liddy told me I was wrong, and why. I did the same. But we listened to each other and said “Thank you” at the end. It was memorable and formative, and never would have happened had he not been able to speak, or to be heard.
